Abstract

Physical activity plays a fundamental role in the lifestyle of any person, since in addition to providing cardiovascular and cardio respiratory benefits, it is also a determining factor in body composition. Therefore, there is interest in determining the level of physical activity in this population and its relationship with body composition. This study consisted of a sample of 56 university students. In this sense, the type of sampling was non-probabilistic and intentional, since representative cases of the population were not sought. The first objective was to identify the theoretical and methodological foundations associated with physical activity and body composition to support the research, and the IPAQ physical activity questionnaire was applied. Result: the data found on the level of weekly physical activity, it can be highlighted that out of 56 first-year students who make up the study sample, (15) that is, 26.8% perform physical activity at a high or vigorous level; (28) that is, 50.0% perform physical activity at a moderate level and no statistical significance was found between the study variables. To conclude, the hypothesis of the study that was initially proposed cannot be completely discarded or accepted in its totality, due to the limitations presented during the investigation, since in addition to the level of physical activity, there are other variables that were not the object of study in this investigation, and that can modify body composition.
