The Blind Tennis: A different vision of life
Abstract
Sport in its social nature and by nature a sport that transforms lives, given that many come to its practice with many imaginaries and when they delve into it they discover that there is a before and after and that this has really given them some experiences that change your life, in this article we present blind tennis, a sport adapted for people with visual disabilities, it is a modality that is relatively booming in the world, the objective is to analyze how this sport has allowed social inclusion, strengthening not only sports skills, but also social ones. In the course of this work, the concepts of disability, visual disability and blind tennis are initially addressed. From a qualitative perspective, the technique used was the life history, the data collection techniques and instruments used were direct observation and a semi-structured interview for the elaboration of the stories that have marked the development of their lives, as results it was found that this sport has allowed athletes a change in those ideas framed from the model of dispensation I know evidence that many of the interviewees achieved feel included, autonomous, free and capable thanks to this sport reflected in the life stories narrated by each of the young people who participated in the study. Among the most important conclusions is that tennis can be an element for social inclusion and human awareness, that it contributes to improving skills, independence, autonomy, social relations, personal improvement and changing paradigms.
