Impact of Strengthening Tourism Skills in the Indigenous Communities of Chimborazo: A Demographic and Educational Approach
Abstract
This study analyzes the impact of strengthening tourism and administrative skills in indigenous communities in the Colta and Guamote cantons, in the province of Chimborazo, Ecuador. Through a comprehensive and 100% virtual approach, designed by the State University of Milagro, diagnostics, training and impact evaluations were implemented to address the educational and socioeconomic needs of the beneficiaries. The results show an 85% increase in knowledge related to tourism management, with a particular focus on digital inclusion and the empowerment of women, who represented 60% of the participants. The initiative had a direct impact on 144 beneficiaries and an indirect impact on more than 1,000 people, highlighting the use of technological tools to overcome access barriers. This project highlights the importance of contextually sensitive interventions to promote sustainable and equitable tourism in marginalized communities, laying the foundation for replicable models in similar contexts.
