Vol 6 No 2 (2026): Sport: multidisciplinary social phenomenon

In this edition, Gade: Scientific Magazine aims to exalt sports as a powerful multidisciplinary social phenomenon. Its interrelationship with all facets of human life cannot be understood from a single perspective. From school life, both the school, children and families, seek in sports a reflection and way to shape values, ideologies, team spirit, commitment, as a way to reduce social inequalities. It acts as a mirror of society, relieving questions of race, class, gender and national identity.
Through the different sporting disciplines, a collective identity and a sense of community are created, uniting unknown people under a common banner. An example is the 2026 Football World Cup, we could call the sports legend. From an early age, sport teaches people cultural norms, teamwork, discipline and respect for authority.
Historically, sport has been a battlefield for social justice, from the movement for civil rights to the fight for wage equality and gender equality. However, it is also a global industry governed by complex regulatory frameworks, frequently used as a tool of international diplomacy and state power.
Among the multidisciplinary approach to sports is the sports right, as well as this set of global legal principles that govern contracts, dopaje, human rights, national and international intellectual property, among others.
Within the framework of public policies, sport is a tool to promote public health, reduce crime, generate employment, reduce informality and promote urban development. This is reflected in equal measure from an economic and management perspective as a global commercial engine driven by transmission rights, sponsorships and consumer behavior. This allows the sports economy to emerge as a trend, encompassing global supply chains, major investments in infrastructure such as stadiums, facilities and sports and recreational tourism. Sports sponsorship allows this transition from amateur sports to a multimillion-dollar entertainment industry driven by television channels and digital streaming platforms.
But sport is also nourished by psychology because it profoundly influences human behavior, mental health and physical capacity. Sports psychology examines team cohesion, leadership and the collective mentality of both athletes and fans. Mixed with biophysical sciences, biology, biomechanics and physiology, it is possible to explain how the human body adapts, grows and recovers, expanding the limits of human potential.
Sport is a universal language, it is a unique social institution that educates, transforms social beings, creates collective social consciousness, generates economic wealth, promotes public policies, imposes legal norms, shapes identities and transcends regional culture.
